Position Profile: 

Mater Dei Radio is seeking a Full-Time Director of Development and Mission Advancement to manage our philanthropic efforts by implementing strategies that cultivate, solicit, and steward listeners, potential supporters, and grant opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Executive Director and Board of Directors to foster a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization to cultivate charitable gifts.
    • Meet in person with an appropriate set number of potential major donors each month to initiate relationships, cultivate interest, and ultimately to make asks (and establish with the ED a monthly in person meeting goal)
      • The ED and/or a member of the Board (or past Board members, key supporters) will try join in such meetings as practical
    • Report to the Executive Director and Board of Directors each month about the results of the prior month’s potential major donor meetings and the schedule of meetings for the coming quarter
  • Develop short- and long-range fund development programs, with defined budgetary and performance objectives, to support the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Develop potential business underwriting opportunities and coordinate their on-air and online messaging with Mater Dei Radio’s programming team.
  • Execute live development oriented events (Leadership Circle, special dinner/event for a select group of donors, and the like) to promote and support Mater Dei Radio.
  • Manage direct mail and other marketing campaigns for mission advancement.
  • Maximize donor prospects by maintaining and analyzing giving history and statistics.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on all development activity.
  • Insures proper donor and volunteer recognition in a timely manner.
  • Facilitates Mater Dei Radio’s semiannual Sharathons.
  • Build and maintain strategic community relationships with complimentary business, civic, and religious organizations.
    • Examples: an evangelization ministry, a social ministry, and a ministry of the archdiocese
  • Assist the ED in building relationships with the local Archdiocese, clergy, administrators, and ministry leaders to enhance media evangelization efforts in local parishes.
  • Assures design and maintenance of donor and prospect records, gift management systems, and informational reports.
  • Attend spiritual and professional development programs as authorized.
  • Perform a variety of other development related tasks as assigned.
  • Adhere to Mater Dei Radio policies and procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must support and follow the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church including but not limited to:
    • The sacredness of life from conception to natural death
    • The nature of man and woman made in God’s image and likeness
    • The nature of marriage made to image God’s relation to mankind
    • The Creed and the Catechism
    • The Papacy, priesthood, and apostolic teaching office of the Church
    • Catholic social teaching concerning subsidiarity, solidarity, just war, death penalty, and related teachings
  • Must be a practicing Catholic who attends mass on holy days of obligation, belongs to a parish, active involvement in Catholic ministries, and who possesses and demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the faith.
  • Ability to keep flexible hours, including some evening and weekend activities.
  • Willingness to travel including on weekends and evenings when Mater Dei Radio is conducting parish appeals (not frequent) and during the week for in person donor meetings throughout the Archdiocese of Portland (Primarily the listening area) and southwest Washington.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) plus years of fundraising and/or marketing experience. Experience in annual and major fund development preferred.
  • Capability and willingness to identify, cultivate and solicit small and large philanthropic gifts
  • Ability to build relationships with prospective individual donors, businesses, and foundations to increase philanthropic support of the organization.
  • Capacity to understand and produce timely activity reports.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications and Raiser’s Edge Nonprofit Fundraising software preferred.
  • High level of personal energy and enthusiasm.
  • Calm demeanor, with ability to perform under high demands.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work with deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field, with advanced training or degree desired.
