Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Stayton

Our Parish for the Week of August 11

Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Stayton

We are heading south to Stayton, Oregon, to feature Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Stayton! Learn all about this vibrant community.

About the Parish

  • The Pastor of Immaculate Conception is Fr. Luan Nguyen and Parochial Vicar is Fr. Arul Jegathesh!
  • Immaculate Conception has a unique and wonderful cooperative relationship with the other parishes in the Santiam vicariate. They work together to play on the strengths of each one and provide prayer and formation to everyone in the local area. Sacha Anne Etzel, Director of Religious Education, spoke to the Morning Blend about how this works!
  • The parish has a Mission of St Catherine of Siena in Mill City. 5 pm Saturday Vigil Mass is offered on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays of the month.
  • The parish is also supportive of Regis St. Mary School (RSM)!
  • Immaculate Conception makes an effort to welcome new families with a phone call or offering a personal visit. Monthly coffee and donuts, as well as monthly potlucks, are offered to foster community.

Other news & things coming up:

  • Immaculate Conception just completed a renovation of the church building, redoing the flooring, replacing the pews (many parish families took home a pew! Others went to area churches), repainting, and adding some dramatic feature woodwork in the sanctuary, among other projects. The project started in the Spring, and parishioners spent three months celebrating Mass in the parish hall, and playing musical chairs with many activities, trying to find spaces for all the different groups who usually use the hall!
  • At the same time, Immaculate Conception started another project: creating an Adoration Chapel that will be accessible 24 hours a day. That project will take a couple more months to complete.
  • Currently Eucharistic Adoration is held each Sunday-Friday at Immaculate Conception. See below for the schedule!
  • This coming Sunday on August 18, they are having our annual parish picnic from noon until 2:30 pm.

Youth Ministry Updates

  • Last Spring, there were 76 young people confirmed from the Santiam vicariate, and they expect a similar number this coming year! Mary Sangster, the Youth Minister at Immaculate, coordinates with Jim Tabor, who works at Regis St. Mary school, and RSM students have their classes through school.
  • In July both youth ministers (and a number of chaperones) led a group of 41 teens to the Steubenville NW youth conference in Spokane. They had 5 awesome days of fun, praise and worship, and fantastic speakers.
  • Mary Sangster’s favorite part of these conferences is “always watching the teens experience God in a new way, and to see their relationship with God deepen and strengthen. This year was particularly special for me because it was the first time my own kid was able to come, so it was especially fun seeing him and his friends experience it!! Next year, we’re hoping to bring 60 teens!”
  • Second Saturday Gatherings are a social gathering for high schoolers, led by high schoolers, following the Vigil Mass, usually on the second Saturday of the month.
