Our Parish for the Week of June 4:
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tillamook,
and St. Joseph Mission, Cloverdale
We are venturing a little outside our broadcast area for our current Parish of the Week – but you can always listen to Mater Dei Radio using the Hail Mary Media app! If you’re heading out to the beautiful hills along the Oregon Coast this summer, consider attending Mass and supporting one of these wonderful churches in Tillamook or Cloverdale!
Some important things to know about the parish:
- Sacred Heart Parish is “a community of believers centered on the Eucharist, the Word of God and Catholic Tradition.” Together, the parish gives “witness to our faith through the Sacraments, good works of service, and prayer.”
- Sacred Heart Parish was founded in the 1890’s!
- Across the street from the spacious Sacred Heart Parish, the newer Sacred Heart Chapel was dedicated in 2019 for smaller liturgies, Eucharistic Adoration, etc. This is a prayerful, more intimate setting that repurposed old pews from St. Cecilia’s in Beaverton, as well as the ambo and altar from St. Boniface in Sublimity.
- The St. Joseph Mission Parish in Cloverdale just celebrated 100 years in 2022! The mission is a beautiful white steepled church set on green hills near Pacific City. The interior features lovely woodwork and statues. This is a small, tight-knit community of dairy farmers, retirees, families who have lived in the parish for a long time – plus vacationers!
- Pastor Fr. Angelo Te regularly shares Gospel reflections on the Facebook page! Some Liturgies are shared on the parish Facebook and YouTube.
- The late, beloved Father Augustine DeNoble of Mount Angel Abbey grew up on a local dairy farm when the Benedictine monks staffed the Catholic parishes of Tillamook County.
- Fr. Augustine had a gift for historical research and wrote “Deaths and Burials of the Catholic Church Sacred Heart Parish, Tillamook, Oregon 1860-1932.” This catalogues the deaths and burials of Tillamook County’s pioneer families, providing a vital record where none previously had existed.
