Our Parish for the Week of July 22:
Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, SW Portland
This week we are headed to Saint Elizabeth of Hungary parish, nestled in the winding wooded roads of SW Portland. Here’s a few things to know about this wonderful parish!
About the Parish:
- This small parish was established in 1953 and is located near OHSU, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and the VA Hospital.
- You can find homilies from Pastor Fr. Chuck Wood in both YouTube and podcast formats!
- The parish hosts a First Thursday of the Month Breakfast after the 8:30 a.m. Mass! The breakfast will start up again in September following a break for the summer months.
- This past Advent the parish held a drive of stuffed animals for children at Doernbecher Hospital, as well as sweatshirts and sweatpants for the VA Hospital Emergency Room for the colder months.
- Pastor Fr. Chuck Wood has served as pastor for three churches named for royal, Medieval Saints: Saint Elizabeth, Saint Wenceslaus and Saint Henry! In the Jubilee Year 2025, Fr. Chuck will be leading a one-of-a-kind pilgrimage honoring these three Saints, stopping in Prague, Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, and more.
