Saint Anthony Catholic Church & School, Tigard

This week we are so excited to feature St. Anthony’s Catholic Church & School in Tigard, Oregon!

A Few Facts About the Parish:

  • The welcoming and diverse community of St. Anthony’s seeks to help its parishioners to become dynamic disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • This Easter almost 60 people entered the Church through St. Anthony’s OCIA program, including several children at the school! 7 different tracks of instruction were opened up to accommodate the high numbers.
  • Pastor Fr. John Henderson has been frequently heard on the Morning Blend’s Homily Highlights, and has made many other appearances on Mater Dei Radio throughout the years. Parochial Vicar Fr. Ephrain Razo has also been featured recently!
  • There is a wide variety of Small Church Communities , such as Bible study, book study groups, prayer groups, prayer shawls, and Sunday readings.
  • The Gathering Space is the trendy, fun area in the parish hall which serves coffee and snacks after Mass, has fancy drinks for purchase, and is used for other groups.
  • Programs are offered through the parish like Learning Our Faith Together, ALPHA, youth ministry, and Sacramental Preparation.
  • Parish volunteers are very active in Adult Baptism, Catechesis, Liturgy, Hospitality, and organizations such as Catholic Daughters, Knights of Columbus, and St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Action teams are small groups who organize around causes or specific areas of need, in connection with the Love in Action committee
    • Women’s Justice Circle for Mental health, focuses on providing mental health resources in Spanish, has led to Latino Mental Health Campaign
    • Refugee Welcome Team
    • Pro-Life Ministry in Adoration of Blessed Sacrament (prayer and concrete action)

 

Buddies Program at St. Anthony’s School

About St. Anthony’s School:

  • Serves Pre-K through 8th grade – Go Hawks!
  • New school building project is underway as their buildings get older, starting with centering the new PreK through 5th grade facility at the heart of campus.
  • Some of the fantastic traditions at the school include:
    • Trike-A-Thon for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
    • Spring play
    • Living Stations in Lent
    • 8th Grade vs. Staff Volleyball Tradition
    • Christmas Program
    • Can Food Drive
    • Summer Camp
  • Regular student activities include CYO Sports, band, Student Council, Film and Drama club, LEAD, Jump Rope Team, choirs and other ministries for school Mass.
  • Parent volunteers as board members and chairmen to put on events such as Spring Auction, Fall Jogathon, Parent Mixers, Classroom Parent Leaders, Volunteer Coordination, Art Lit, Spirit Store, Restaurant Hawks Night Out events, Volunteer Security Training, and monthly Community Events.

Upcoming Parish Events:

  • The school’s annual Dinner & Auction – with an Aloha Luau theme – is taking place this Saturday, April 27, plus an online silent auction happening all week!
  • Catholic Daughters Annual Tea is on May 4 at 1:30 p.m.
  • The Parish Spaghetti Dinner is put on by Fr. John and the leadership team for their parish community, and to celebrate mothers over Mother’s Day Weekend. Featuring Fr. John’s Famous Meaty Spaghetti Sauce, parish community members are invited to this great event happening Saturday, May 11 directly following the 5:00 p.m. Mass
  • Women’s Retreat with Julie Onderko on “Unveiling Our True Identity and Purpose” on Saturday, May 18.
